L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a significant contract by the U.S. Navy to provide depot maintenance, repair, and overhaul support for the Navy’s P-8A Poseidon fleet. The fleet, consisting of 135 aircraft, specialises in maritime patrol and reconnaissance, long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
The P-8A Poseidon is a next-generation aircraft, succeeding the P-3 Orion, which was long considered a cornerstone of maritime patrol missions. L3Harris has a history of providing sustainment and modification services for the P-3 Orion across various military partners, including the U.S. Navy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the militaries of Brazil, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea.

The work on the P-8A Poseidon fleet is slated to begin this year at L3Harris’ aircraft modification facility in Waco, Texas, and is expected to continue through September 2029.
